Marine conservation

Mission statement

ACIO wildlife conservation envisions a world where wildlife prospers in healthy lands and seas, valued by societies that embrace and benefit from the diversity and integrity of life on earth.

Marine conservation

We make sense of the changing seas, on which future human prosperity and wellbeing depend. We know the ocean is critical to life on earth, yet we are facing a dramatic decline in ocean health, with human activity affecting sea levels, temperature and the millions of species that call the ocean home. Our ambition is to make a positive impact, drive change and bring public benefit in all we do.

In marine conservation we have spent years working with individuals and organizations who journey with us to guard our sea and who share our vision to ensure that generations to come, get to experience the beauty of oceans and lakes in real life. Our focal point has always been safeguarding critically endangered species such as: Sawfishes, sharks, Atlantic Humpback Dolphin, Hawksbill Turtles, Green Turtles, scalloped Hammerhead Sharks, Angel sharks, in addition to many other types of fish and rays.

Prevent overfishing

Despite its significance for marine life, the area is under intense pressure from unsustainable commercial fishing (specifically for shark fin), oil exploration and drilling. Overfishing and illegal operations are straining shark and other fish populations, which negatively impacts biodiversity and local food security. Because commercial fishers often operate in zones reserved for local fishers, the local fishers are experiencing reduced catches.

ACIO is dedicated to preserving diverse ecosystems by advocating for protective policies, engaging communities in conservation efforts, combatting poaching, mitigating pollution, and supporting biodiversity projects. The organization collaborates with scientific institutions, monitors ecosystem health, and builds cross-sectoral partnerships. Through education on sustainable practices, ACIO strives to ensure the longevity and resilience of oceans, land, freshwater, and forests, recognizing the interconnected nature of these environments and their crucial role in supporting wildlife and biodiversity.
